Cheddar is the name of a village in Sommerset, located in the southwest of England, a few miles from Bristol. West Country Farmhouse Cheddar PDO must be made in the traditional way with ingredients from the South West of England in the four counties of Cornwell, Devon, Somerset and Dorset.
Cheddar is a cousin of Cantal, Salers and Laguiole. The basic recipe for these cheeses may have been brought by the Roman legions.
